BASICS OF ICE HOCKEY
Ice Hockey is a fast sport! The puck can travel at around 100mph, and the skaters are fast!
The game is played in 3 lots of 20 minute periods with the ice resurfaced between periods.
The aim of the game is to score as many goals as you can – Ice Hockey doesn’t end with a draw. If the game is level at the end of 60 minutes, the match will go into overtime and then penalties shots.
When the match starts, there will be 1 netminder and 5 players for each time.
Puck drops and the game starts!
Players are generally on the ice for about 1-2 minutes before they will switch lines. 2 players may go off and will be replaced by 2 other players from their bench. This will continue throughout the match.
As we said, Ice Hockey is a fast sport and so this gives the players a chance to recover.
Should any players receive a penalty, which could be for elbowing, tripping, slashing or even too many men on the ice (seeing as we are only allowed 5 players & 1 netminder at any one time), the player who gets the penalty will go to the penalty box.
Majority of the penalties will be for 2 minutes, however there are some for 5 minutes (for example for fighting) and some for longer.
When this happens, the team with the person in the penalty box will be a player down, known as a ‘Playerplay’ to the other team.
The DJ will let you know everything that happens (player announcement’s, goals, penalties, etc) as the game goes along. Plus the scoreboard will also show who’s in the penalty box.
HOW DO I LET YOU KNOW IF I HAD A SEASON TICKET LAST SEASON?
HOW DO I LET YOU KNOW WHERE I'D LIKE TO SIT OR STAND?
WHICH PARTS OF THE RINK ARE THE BUSIEST OR HAVE SPACE?
For standing places, the home attacking end of the rink is usually busy.
For seated places, block B & C are normally our busiest.
The rink can be very busy so we will need to allocate seating to maximise capacity, and may need to move seats slightly at time of allocation to ensure no single seats or spaces are left.
WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE SECURED MY PREFERRED SEAT OR STANDING PLACES?
WHAT DO I DO IF I WANT TO MOVE SPACES / APPLY FOR A SPACE ALREADY RESERVED?
Buy your ticket in the normal way. Add in the standing/ comments box that you ideally want XXX seats/ space, but if that does not become available, you’d like XXX space. You will be initially allocated the ones that are free, then in May 2023, we can move people depending on who has/ has not renewed for the new season.
