Looking to start your Ice Hockey journey? No Experience? No Equipment?

No problem!

First Shift is designed for children to take that first step on the ice, starting that journey of enjoying sport from an early age, developing skills by learning to skate and play at the same time. This builds confidence and a love of being active and of sport in general.

Currently First Shift is ideally suited for children between aged 4 and 11, the children learn skating skills, Ice Hockey skills and confidence all while having that key ingredient – lots of fun!

Our on-ice sessions are run by the Bees Director of Hockey and Ex-player Doug Sheppard, with an Ice Skating Professional, Berkshire Bees Players and Coaches.

We understand that equipment is expensive but it is a vital part of being safe on the ice but adds to the fun and experience of feeling like an Ice Hockey player. We have equipment that is available to hire for a small fee for the weekly sessions to keep children safe until everyone is sure that this is a sport for them. When you are ready to buy your own equipment, we have a range of fantastic deals from our own Skate Hangar Shop, with exclusive First Shift prices. Please be sure to ask in the Skate Hangar Shop about payment plans for equipment purchases as we are fortunate to be able to ask for support to make the equipment more affordable for the children, reducing barriers to the development of the sport at grass roots level.

If your child is over 11 but under 14, please email us and we can assess the skating/Ice Hockey ability to see if we can accommodate them into the sessions.

First Shift is run as part of the ever growing Junior Bees Programme which is part of The TSI World Berkshire Bees Ice Hockey Club.
