After the announcement of our player development programme with Streatham last week the TSI World Berkshire Bees are delighted to announce a second player development programme with the Cardiff Canucks of NIHL South 2.
The Canucks are the brainchild of former Cardiff Devil and NHL draft pick Trevor Hendrikx and his business partner Gav Thomas. Hendrikx has been running his popular camps for a number of years and offers elite on and off ice training for players looking to take their game to the next level. Taking their first steps into league hockey in 2024/25 the Cardiff Canucks will offer training every day to players in an effort to develop the next generation of elite British hockey players. The partnership between the Bees and the Canucks will see Canucks players train with the Bees and progress on into the National League.
When asked, Canucks Director of Hockey and Player/Coach Trevor Hendrikx said:
“We’re very excited to have this partnership in place. Being able to provide our players with a pathway to the National League is amazing. To be able to do it with such a great organisation is even better. It’s very exciting to have the Berkshire Bees recognising our unique model in UK Hockey that will see our youngsters training like pros and bridging the considerable gap between Junior and Senior Hockey. Our ‘Partnership Pathway’ will see high end prospects from the Canucks being given the opportunity to train with the Bees once a week – with the potential for call ups as required.
This is a huge moment in the short history of the Cardiff Canucks. We have talked to players about a pathway – but now we can really evidence this, which is amazing. We’re linking with a great organisation – with good people involved. Both Doug Sheppard and Ashley Tait are seasoned pros who know exactly what is required to have a long and successful hockey career”
Bees Director of Hockey Doug Sheppard had this to say on the partnership:
“I like what Trevor is building with the Canucks, it’s different and certainly something I’d like to get involved with. He’s recruiting young hungry players that will be on the ice every day with the ambition to play in the NIHL.
This is a great pathway for kids to get to the next level, our goal will be to develop them further into the Elite league. This might take some time to accomplish but I’m looking forward to the challenge working alongside Trevor and the Canucks. We’ll get our first look at some of the prospects August 1 when our summer sessions start.”
